Fascinated by pieces of old road seen while driving Alberta’s Banff-Jasper highway, I imagine following what remains on horseback, slipping momentarily into history and returning refreshed. However, marring the views of such old roads is increasing evidence of man’s destructiveness - ABB

Racing through the mountains on a smooth black road
I see fragments down below me of an old road
My eyes try to follow with only fleeting glimpses
To follow is where my heart longs to go
As it meanders and winds through slower times in the silence

And I upon the new road look down upon the old road and l wonder

The bridges are washed out the grass grows long
Trees creep in closer the old road is almost gone
Up upon the new road we zoom from A to B
Speeding noisily always too fast to see
